Almost every storefront quote starts with the price of the letters. Almost none starts with what time of day your customer walks past, which is the thing that actually decides the material.
A business that closes at six and one that closes at eleven do not need the same sign, even when the logo is identical.
What each option does well
Unlit 3D letters look sharp in daylight. Depth, real shadow, clean edges. After dark they disappear, unless the building throws light on them.
A lit sign, whether it is face-lit letters or a cabinet, exists twenty-four hours. In daylight it competes with the sun and depends on contrast. At night nothing beats it.
That is where most buyers choose wrong, and it is not because of the fabrication price.
The cost nobody puts in the quote
A lit sign draws power and needs maintenance. Power supplies degrade, a module goes dark, and a sign with one dead letter says something worse than no sign at all.
That cost does not appear in the quote because it arrives later. So when someone asks us for lit, we ask who is going to service it and how often.
Tijuana sun does not forgive cheap material
A storefront here takes direct sun almost all year, and the material shows it by the second summer. Quality acrylic holds without yellowing. The substitutes go cloudy and the color washes out.
Same with printed vinyl on a cabinet face: one with UV protection lasts years, one without it fades in months. The difference in the quote is small. The difference on the building, two years in, is not.
The question that decides, and almost nobody asks
It is not which one looks better or which one costs less. It is what time your customer walks past.
If your buyer passes at midday on the way to work, well-made 3D letters do the whole job and you skip the maintenance. If your business lives on evenings, or you sit on an avenue people drive home on, light is not a luxury. It is half the sign.
And if your case is both, there is a middle path almost nobody offers: 3D letters with halo lighting. Read by depth in daylight and by glow at night, with less power draw and fewer parts that can burn out.
How to ask so the quote is worth reading
Send the wall measurement, a photo of the facade from where a customer actually sees it, and one line about your hours. That is enough for us to tell you which of the three fits, even when the answer is the cheapest one.
Do you install, or only fabricate?
We install. The shop that measures, fabricates and mounts is the same one, and installed work carries a one year written warranty.
Can you work from my logo file?
Send vectors if you have them. If all you have is a photo or a flat image, we redraw it and send you a visual to approve before anything gets cut.
Do you deliver across the border?
We deliver to San Diego, Chula Vista and Otay Mesa regularly, and we have shipped work as far as Texas, Illinois and France. Our shop is 15 minutes from the Otay Mesa crossing.
